Golovkin Wins Close Decision Victory Over Jacobs

Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin beat Danny Jacobs in a close decision that saw the knockout artist go 12 rounds for the first time in his career.

Even though Golovkin didn’t get the knockout, he dropped Jacobs in the 4th round, though his opponent claimed that he was not phased by his power. In any case, Jacobs raised his stock by being the first to take Golovkin the distance.

Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez Loses in Massive Upset

As a 25-to-1 favorite, the undefeated Roman ‘Chocolatio’ Gonzalez lost to Thailand’s Wisaksil in a bloody, action-packed slugfest that was the biggest upset in Thailand’s boxing history.

Chocolatito was on nearly every pound-for-pound list and many were drawing comparisons with Mayweather due to his 46 fight undefeated streak (which he claimed also included over 80 amateur fights without a loss).

Thurman Wins Split Decision Over Danny Garcia

Keith Thurman put on a show of skill and built an early lead on Danny Garcia that was enough to see him through to a split decision — despite a late surge from his opponent.

Keith Thurman began the fight by throwing spectacular power punches that almost sent Danny Garcia to the canvas for the first knockdown of his career. The first few rounds were filled with thrilling exchanges, but Thurman slowly started to use his movement and jab to avoid Garcia’s heavy hooks.

Lubin Scores Spectacular Knockout Against Cota

Erickson Lubin scored a spectacular knockout against Jorge Cota in the 4th round of their super-welterweight title eliminator.

As promised, Erickson Lubin delivered a stunning knockout of his opponent Jorge Cota. Lubin controlled the fight with his southpaw jab and made it looks easy.

After feinting his opponent, Lubian landed a lead left hand that dropped Cota and ended the fight. With the win, Lubin earned himself a title shot against Jermell Charlo (assuming he gets past Charles Hatley).

Eggington Stops Malignaggi With Body Punch

As a slight betting underdog, Paulie Malignaggi put forth a respectable effort before getting stopped by Sam Eggington’s left hook to the body in the 9th round of their welterweight fight.

The size differential became apparent very early in this fight with the much bigger Sam Eggington walking down the smaller Malignaggi.

Eleider Alvarez Stops Lucian Bute with 5th Round TKO

Canadian boxer Eleider Alvarez made a name for himself after knocking out Lucian Bute in the fifth round of their fight this past Friday in Quebec City.

Bute was an underdog at the betting window, though he was certainly the crowd favorite between these two fighters. Fans in attendance cheered Bute on in the early going as he showed glimpses of his top class form. In fact, Bute was ahead on two judges scorecards heading into Round 5.
