Betting odds at Bovada have Andre Ward as a (-165) favorite against the (+135) underdog Sergey Kovalev.

Sergey Kovalev (and boxing fans) demanded a rematch after Andre Ward’s controversial decision win that earned him the moniker “Son of Judges”, a play on Ward’s “Son of God” ring persona.

Now, while Sergey Kovalev probably did enough to to earn a victory in the first fight, he made the mistake of not taking advantage when he had Ward down early in the fight. You just can’t do that against a great fighter like Ward and must take advantage of opportunities when they come your way.

The rematch should favor Ward even more than the odds indicate. If you look at the first fight, Ward was coming off a lengthy layoff and looked shaky in the early going as he was dropped by Kovalev, only to recover and perform much better in the second half of the fight.

Ward will now have the benefit of being in the ring with Kovalev and getting his movement and timing down which will enable him to win a more decisive victory in the rematch that will resemble the second half of the first fight.

Prediction: Bet on Ward to win at (-165) odds
