Since his defeat to Andre Ward back in 2011, Arthur Abraham has stayed close to home and nursed his career back to health. But, he has finally been lured out of Germany to fight in Las Vegas (presumably by a generous purse to bolster Pacquiao/Bradley).
Abraham has been fighting European level competition in his own backyard, with his biggest test coming against Paul Smith and Martin Murray, both relatively light punchers for the weight class. Both of these fights resulted in decisions that were disputed either way, many believing they went to Abraham for being the hometown hero.
However, Abraham doesn’t figure to garner that level of support when fighting in Las Vegas on April 9. This is because there will be a large Mexican fan base in the building to support Zurdo Ramirez and Oscar Valdez, along with what promoter Bob Arum described as an ‘Anti-Trump’ undercard, in reference to Donald Trump and recent comments about the Mexican people.
