George Groves will be defending his WBA super-middleweight title when he faces Callum Smith on Saturday, July 14th in an all-British final of the World Boxing Super Series.
Current betting odds online have George Groves as a slight (-138) favorite while Callum Smith is a (+110) underdog.
This fight had to be postponed from it's original June 2nd date because Groves suffered a shoulder injury in his semi-final win over Chris Eubank. It's still unclear on how the injury will effect Groves as this will be a quick turnaround from the surgery he had in March.
Callum Smith had somewhat of a walkover in the semi-final as he faced kickboxer Nieky Holzken after Juergen Braehmer withdrew due to injury.
When it comes to this matchup, Groves (28-3-0) will have a decided experience advantage over Smith (24-0-0) who has never faced top-level competition before joining this tournament. While the 6'3" Callum Smith will hold a clear height and reach advantage over the smaller Groves.
Oddsmakers have this fight as a closely contested affair, considering Groves was opened at (+100) against the well-known Chris Eubank Jr. Now, he is only a slight favorite over Callum Smith, which shows a certain level of respect for a young, unproven boxer like Smith.
