Although he announced his retirement after defeating Tim Bradley in their third fight, Manny Pacquiao is back in action less than a year later to face Jesse Vargas. Boxing fans around the world are hopeful that a Mayweather rematch is in the cards.
Almost overshadowing what is taking place in the ring is the dispute with Manny and HBO over broadcasting the fight on November 5th. The fight is now being shown by Top Rank PPV because HBO had already committed to a PPV featuring Ward and Kovalev on November 19th.
Interestingly, this means there will be a different commentary crew than what we have been accustomed to when watching previous Pacquiao fights. It will consist of ESPN’s Brian Kenny and Stephen A. Smith.
As for Jesse Vargas, many pundits believe Pacquiao’s speed and experience will be too much for him and see him as a stepping stone towards a bigger fight. This is because Vargas has had to struggle against much lesser competition than Pacquiao and was dominated for much of the fight against Tim Bradley.
The updated odds have been released and Manny Pacquiao to win by decision is seen as the most likely outcome. This isn’t much of a surprise considering that Manny’s last 10 wins have come via 12 decision and his last KO win was back in 2009 against Miguel Cotto.
