Betting odds at 5Dimes have Mercito Gesta as the (-160) favorite over Gilberto Gonzalez (+120).
Gesta has been out of action since a win over Angel Mendoza at the Stub Hub Center back in November of 2015 and fater undergoing shoulder surgery, Gesta says he is feeling 100% and is looking to get back into title contention under the tutelage of new trainer Freddie Roach at the famed Wildcard Gym.
A southpaw with fast hands like his countryman Manny Pacquiao, Gesta is definitely the “A-side” in this fight and his current promoters, Golden Boy, are hoping the longtime title contender will finally pan out.
Gesta’s only career loss came at the hands of Miguel Vazquez in an IBF lightweight title fight back in 2012. His opponent, Gilberto Gonzalez, holds a 26-3 record but is currently riding an 8-fight knockout streak.
The Oddsmakers see this as a close fight and the opening odds for Gesta have dropped from (-210) to (-160). So, it seems that gamblers are leaning towards Gonzalez, who is a dangerous puncher that can change the fight at any time with his power.
