Terence “Bud” Crawford thrilled 10,000 of his hometown fans in Omaha, Nebraska with a 9th round knockout of Yuriorkis Gamboa that put an exclamation point a very exciting fight.
The size differential between these two boxers was a talking point coming into this fight, and it ended up playing a large role in the outcome because Crawford looked a full weight class above Gamboa.
The Cuban boxer looked dangerous early in the fight, as he took control of the opening rounds with his speed, while Crawford tried to keep Gamboa on the outside by using a crisp jab as the Cuban darted in and out with his attack.
However, Crawford would eventually time the wild attacks of Gamboa, and in Round 5 he landed a counter that put Gamboa down for the 7th “official” knockdown of his career.
This marked the beginning of the end for Gamboa, and although he made a courageous attempt to get back in the fight with an all-out assault, but this would lead to him getting knocked down three more times, and eventually stopped with a beautiful uppercut in the 9th round.
