Danny Green defeated Anthony Mundine via a controversial majority decision that most of the Australian boxing world strongly disagreed with. The loss left Mundine broken and in tears in his locker room.
While this fight didn’t garner much attention outside of Australia, it was a major spectacle “Down Under” that attracted 30,000 fans which included celebrities and athletes from around the county.
These two boxers first squared off over a decade ago back in 2006 in a fight that Mundine won by unanimous decision. There was certainly no love lost in the rematch as both fighters were penalized during the contest, Mundine for hitting or the break in Round 1, and Green for using his elbows in Round 7.
While Green looked strong in the early going, it was Mundine who controlled the latter half of the fight with his jab that kept his bigger, stronger opponent at bay.
Most observers saw Mundine winning and the local bookies had Mundine at (-1000) odds after Round 11 on live betting. The scores were indeed controversial, as two judges had the fight close, while the other had Green winning comfortably at 98-90.
