Dillian Whyte put on a measured performance against Ian Lewison and would eventually stop him in the 10th round after his corner threw in the towel. With the win, Whyte was crowned as the new British heavyweight champion.
As we predicted here, the fight went over the total of 5.5 rounds and was not quite the slugfest that everyone expected. This is mainly because Whyte opted to box from range and avoid the power of Lewison in the early rounds.
Whyte took some of the steam out of Lewison with some digging body punches that he put in the bank early on, and this contributed to Lewison slowing down in the latter part of the fight. Lewison had never been past 8 rounds and his corner mercifully brought an end to the bout after the 10th round.
As new British heavyweight champion, Whyte is looking for a local showdown with the infamous Dereck Chisora.
