Franscico Vargas did what was expected as a heavy betting favorite when he dominated Rod Salka en route to a 6th round TKO victory.
Betting odds opened with Vargas as a (-2000) favorite but climbed to (-3300) after gamblers showed support Mexican fighter.
Vargas was the bigger fighter and he used that to his advantage under the guidance of new trainer Joel Diaz. Vargas had little problem disposing of Salka as he walked him down and slowly broke through his defenses.
Vargas knocked Salka down and caused damage to his eye, which prompted his corner to stop the fight after the sixth round. Salka was able to connect with counter punches throughout the contest, but he did not have the power to keep Vargas off of him.
The main concern about Francisco Vargas was the scar tissue around his eyes, though he held up well and did not suffer any cuts during the fight.
An interesting sidenote to this fight is that Salka appeared to be wearing trunks that said "America 1st" with a red and blue brick wall that some say was inspired by Donald Trump's proposed border wall. This stunt appeared to backfire as he was soundly beaten by his Mexican opponent.
