Lucas Matthysse’s style lends to exciting fights and his win over Emmanuel Taylor was no different.”La Machina” put his opponent on the canvas twice en route to a 5th round TKO stoppage.
The long layoff did not seem to bother Matthysse as he landed power shots on Taylor and had him stunned early in the fight.
There was a slight bump in the road for Matthysse as he was on the wrong end of a headbutt in the 3rd round that had him pawing at slight cut above his right eye.
Matthysse seemed bothered by this and Taylor caught on to this and launched an offensive attack. However, it was Taylor’s eagerness to capitalize that led to to get careless and suffer a knockdown after walking onto a right hand shot of Matthysse.
Although Taylor made it back to his feet, he never fully recovered from this and it was just a matter of time before Matthysse finished the fight. He eventually finished Taylor in the 5th with a flurry of punches against the ropes that caused him to slump to the floor.
The win for Matthysse is good news because with a handful of potential opponents at weltweight, “La Machina” is back to quench the thirst of ravenous boxing fans in another bloody contest.
An interesting note is that, according to compubox stats, Matthysse landed more punches in his 5 round victory than Chavez Jr. landed over the course of 12 rounds.
