On the Knockout Kings 2 card young prospect Omar Figueroa bested Japanese fighter Nihito Arakawa in a thrilling contest that is being considered as a “Fight of the Year” candidate. Boxing fans were treated to a show as these two fighters exchanged over 2100 total punches in a brutal war of attrition!
While it was Figueroa dominating the fight, he was still unable to break the will of the Japanese Arakawa despite having him over matched in nearly every regard. The stubborn Arakawa was knocked down in the 2nd round and then again in the 6th, but he continued to press forward and absorb seemingly unreal amounts of punishment.
Many who watched the fight claim that if Arakawa had more power behind his punches he would have had a better chance. Some of the reason Figueroa was unable to KO Arakawa is that he hurt his hands early on during the fight. Figueroa won by wide unanimous decision 119-107, 118-108, 118-108.
