Rey Vargas put on an impressive performance in his super-bantamweight title defence against Ronny Rios, which he won by unanimous decision.
Vargas was the taller fighter with the longer reach, and he showed off handspeed and some flashy combinations as he punished Rios in the early rounds as he tried to work his way inside.
Although Vargas clearly had the reach advantage and could keep Rios at bay with the jab, he beckoned Rios in and exchanged punches with him toe-to-toe.
Rios did have moments of success where he landed left hooks to the body and checked the chin of Vargas with overhand rights, though it was overshadowed by the crisp, combination punching of Vargas who put on a very impressive effort and showed his pedigree as a student of Nacho Beristain.
The official scores were 118-110, 118-110, and 115-113. Vargas was a (-400) favorite entering the bout.
